Gower Coast Adventures join Gower SOS

Loss of sand affects local Tourist Attraction.
This will have a direct impact on this respected and popular attraction and affect other businesses related to tourism.
Swansea and Gower rely heavily on visitors to boost the local economy.
The dredging of sand from the Helwick sandbank must have had an influence on the erosion of sand from Port Eynon beach. In the light of this recent evidence the Welsh Assembly Government must reconsider any decision to grant further dredging so close to Gower's precious and beautiful coastline. Loss of sand affects local Tourist Attraction.

Gower Coast Adventures, established in 2003, brought a new tourist
attraction to Swansea and Gower, with the support of the then Wales Tourist
Board. This business operates boat trips from Port Eynon from May until
October, giving passengers an opportunity to discover the dramatic South
Gower coastline to Worms Head and observe the wealth of marine life of the
area.

'Sea Serpent' is a purpose built boat and having water jet propulsion is
able to pick up passengers safely from shallow water. The boating lane at
Port Eynon has been a departure point throughout all states of the tide for
four years without a problem.

Now Mike and David Tonge have had to modify their operations after an
inspection of the beach and a risk assessment made of the present
conditions. It is now not possible to operate from this location beyond
three hours either side of low tide without a direct risk of injury to
passengers or damage to the boat. The area of beach above half tide has
changed completely, becoming rock instead of sand.

This will have a direct impact on this respected and popular attraction and
affect other businesses related to tourism.

Why jeopardise the local tourism economy for the benefit of one dredging
operator? Please go elsewhere for the sand!

I could not agree more! It's disgraceful! I remember Port Eynon being a beautiful sandy beach.
